Organization Overview

Nonviolent Initiative for Democracy Inc. (NID) is a nonprofit organization, based in Needham, MA, that aims to teach the principles and methods of nonviolence in the process of establishing democracy.  NID believes that in developing societies the road to democracy will be better paved and stronger, if it is through nonviolent struggle, dissemination of democratic and peaceful norms and values, and promotion of pluralism and tolerance.

Position Descriptions

JOB OPENING: PROJECT MANAGER

NID is seeking an organized and experienced self-starter who is fluent in Farsi and English to fill the full-time position of Project Manager. The Project Manager will play a key role in the development and success of a project that supports women’s leadership. He/she will supervise one full-time staff member, as well as consultants, interns, and volunteers. The ideal candidate has strong project management skills, excellent judgment, and can succeed in a fast-paced work environment.

Under the supervision of the CEO, responsibilities include:

  • Oversee project implementation and success
  • Develop and execute a multi-year project workplan and timeline
  • Train, develop, and coordinate staff, consultants, interns, and volunteers
  • Create and implement monitoring and evaluation systems
  • Correspond with funders and produce regular reports and documentation of project activity
  • Establish and maintain in country partnerships
  • Establish internal procedures and policies

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years experience in project management, training, or other relevant fields
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills
  • Able to take initiative, creatively solve problems, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Able to balance multiple responsibilities, from big-picture strategy to project details
  • Ability to effectively supervise staff and work as part of a team
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Google Apps
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Oral and written fluency in Farsi and English required
  • Strong commitment to mission and values of NID

This is a full time, salaried position based in NID’s Needham, Massachusetts office. NID provides health insurance and paid holiday, sick, and vacation leave. JOB OPENING: DEPUTY DIRECTOR

NID is seeking an organized and experienced nonprofit leader to oversee NID’s core back-office functions, including finance, human resources, grant reports, operations, and organizational development. The Deputy Director will play a key role in this growing organization, supporting the team to deliver projects that build Iranian women’s confidence and leadership. The ideal candidate has strong management skills, excellent writing skills, and can balance multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced work environment.

Under the supervision of the CEO, responsibilities include:

  • Financial management, grant compliance, and expense tracking, in coordination with bookkeeper
  • Preparing narrative and financial reports and overseeing monitoring and evaluation
  • Human Resources, including payroll, benefits administration, and contracts
  • Organizational development, including coordination of Strategic Planning process
  • Develop organizational policies and procedures to ensure organizational excellence and efficiency
  • Various office, vendor, insurance, and IT needs
  • Relationship building and project exploration with current and potential partners
  • General support to CEO and other team members
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications

  • 2-5 years experience in nonprofit management, finance, HR, or other relevant fields
  • Nonprofit financial management, including budget management, audits, and grant compliance
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Able to take initiative, creatively solve problems, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Able to balance multiple responsibilities, from big-picture strategy to project details
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Google Apps
  • Quickbooks skills a plus but not required
  • Organizational development and strategic planning experience a plus but not required
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong commitment to mission and values of NID
